Participation is free and easy. They send you send you a hand-held scanner designed to read bar codes on items that you buy. It only takes a few minutes to scan before putting your purchases away. Then, once a week, the scanner transmits your purchase data to them (free of charge).

Nielson New Zealand Surveys is a way that allows the consumer to influence what is sold in our stores. At the same time as a thank you for your participation you collect points to use in their rewards catalogue.

Pros: You will earn valuable gift points, redeemable toward gifts offered in their catalogue. You also use the power of your consumer spending to influence what appears on the store shelves. So if you want more organic produce  for example, then when you buy any item with a bar code you can show that this is the type of product you want.

Cons: It will take a little more of your time, but the system is quick and easy to use

I am myself part of the Consumer Panel. There are no catches and you are dealing with a large reputable consumer research company. You can find full details at their site (watch the video, it explains it all very simply)
